Our Club, Our Team

Kohimarama Yacht Club (KYC) is a renowned junior and youth sailing club based in Auckland.

With a strong focus on educating young athletes and enhancing their sailing skills, KYC is committed to providing a pathway for junior and youth sailors to participate in club, national and international events.

KYC is focused on providing a pathway for all our members and a supportive environment, both on and off the water, that is inclusive, fun, energetic, supportive and motivating. KYC is proud to host two prestigious regattas every year – Junior Sail Auckland and the PredictWind Girls Champs (the largest female-only junior and youth sailing regatta in the Southern Hemisphere).

Our members sail a range of boats from optimists, P-Class, Starlings and Feva’s through to 29ers and 420s, WASZP and Wing Foils.

Our Learn to Sail Programme is a highly regarded introduction to the sport of sailing for children aged 9+. The club has approximately 100 member families, with about 120 boats sailing on a full club day.

Many of our talented sailors have competed in nationally and globally recognised class-specific regattas and significant events such as the Olympic Games, America’s Cup and SailGP.

Our club day takes place on a Sunday, with training in the morning and club racing in the afternoon. Additional training for most fleets is available on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

We have a fantastic clubhouse on the water at Tamaki Drive and a boat shed at nearby Madills Farm. The boat shed houses our fleet of 18 inflatable patrol boats. In addition, we have our outer course start boat, Marama, which is moored at the Outboard Boating Club.

KYC is a smoke-free, vape-free club. If you have any questions please email us on info@kyc.org.nz

Our Team

KYC is run by a dedicated team of volunteers passionate about encouraging young sailors to love the sport and empowering them to go on to be competitive sportspeople.

The committee is elected at the club AGM and is chaired by our Commodore. With strong governance and experience in sailing, health and safety and sustainability, members of the committee have responsibility for the overall operation and management of the club activities, the buildings, boats and other assets of the club.

Club revenue is generated by member subscriptions, sponsorship and grants. KYC is very fortunate to have the support of Barfoot & Thompson as our main sponsor.
