Tom, sailors and ‘Kohi 1’

On Sunday 15 December 2013 KYC was proud to ‘launch’ our latest vessel. The new Southern Pacific 5.5m XWB was launched with a few words from our patron Tom Schnackenberg. Tom was pleased to be re-associated with the club having been away for 8 years on various campaigns most recently with Artemis Racing.

Tom is keen for our young sailors to stick with the sport as there are great possibilities from making friends, to representing your country or even a career. We look forward to seeing more of Tom and gaining from his experience.

‘Kohi 1’ has had a few sea trials and has proven to be a great boat in all conditions. It is dry and stable. The Honda 75 is a powerful motor and needs to be handled with care. At Sir Peter Blake carrying 10 people and towing 4 Opti’s into a head wind with a bit of a chop ‘Kohi 1’ made it look easy. ‘Kohi 1’ is transported on a braked trailer. before towing her please ensure you are familiar with how trailer brakes work.
