Marama has been a much loved start boat at KYC for many years. She was launched by Lady Thea Muldoon in the summer of 1979/80. Marama has been the key vessel at KYC for a very long time starting races all season and keeping a close watch on the sailors. She has also helped out at other clubs when needed, most recently at RAYC for the Oceanbridge Sail Auckland Regatta.
Marama is now looking “spruce and dapper” after her recent haul out, re-antifoul and installation of a Brookes and Gatehouse (B&G) electronic system kindly arranged by Robert Anderson. Not only will we now know how strong and where the wind is coming from (kind of important for yacht racing) we will also know if the anchor is going to reach the bottom when we chuck it over.
A great many thanks to those who gave their time to help with the work. A very big THANK YOU to Paul Wotton for co-ordinating the haul out and the constant care and attention given to the old girl!
The photo shows Marama moored at her Outboard Boating Club berth. Note the new logo on her side, a reflection of our thanks to B&G. Look out for more perfectly set courses this summer!
